The fact that mercury-poisoning symptoms take 15 years to appear
led to the need to mobilize local communities concerning the importance
of continuous monitoring of fish, especially in areas with a history
of mercury pollution.
Our main challenges are:
Decentralize test data without shirking responsibilities or leaking
information. This will definitely facilitate effective management
of the problem without creating unnecessary panic;
Demystify the need for greater precision in the results, since
the alternative method is not intended to replace the traditional
methods, but to serve as a screening tool to guarantee safe fish
consumption, proper disposal of effluents, and environmental pollution
assessment;
The method is my contribution to attempt to minimize mercury problems
for the environment and human health. I'm counting on you to help
spread the word and to offer your suggestions for more effective
use of the resulting information.
Cordially,
Allegra
